About Protecht
Protecht Health is an iPhone app that lets people show a partner STI and HIV test results that come straight from their healthcare provider, for 60 seconds, in person or with a link. Your Sexual Health, Your Terms.
Protecht Health is a HIPAA-compliant iPhone app for sharing sexual health results that can't be edited. The app brings in STI and HIV test results and vaccination records from a person's healthcare provider through Apple Health, keeps them encrypted on the phone, and lets that person show a partner, for 60 seconds, in person or with a link. Protecht doesn't store your results, and sharing HIV status in the app is always free. Founded in 2025 by David Leder, Protecht Health is independent, self-funded, and based in San Jose, California. Founder
David Leder
David Leder is the founder of Protecht Health, an iPhone app for sharing STI and HIV test results that come straight from a person's healthcare provider. He is based in San Jose, California.
Leder has spent more than 20 years leading web and digital product work at technology companies including Cisco, NetApp and HP/Palm. He started Protecht in 2025 to fix a moment most people know: someone asks when you were last tested, and all you can offer is a screenshot or your word. Screenshots can be faked, and texting a result hands over private health information with no control over where it goes.
Leder designed Protecht and led its build. The app is built natively for iPhone on Apple's HealthKit, which brings in health records in the FHIR standard. An independent security review was completed before Protecht launched on the App Store in June 2026. He has brought Protecht to Oakland Pride and San Jose Pride to talk with the people it's built for.
"Your results belong on your phone, not on our servers, and you should be the one who decides who sees them."

Questions
Press FAQ
What is Protecht?
Protecht Health is an iPhone app for sharing sexual health test results that come straight from your healthcare provider. You connect your records through Apple Health, and Protecht brings in your results for ten STIs, including HIV and syphilis, plus COVID-19 and your vaccination records. When you want to share, you do it in person — your partner scans a code, with Protecht or with their phone's camera, and sees your results for 60 seconds. Protecht launched on the App Store on June 29, 2026.
Where do the results come from, and can they be faked?
Results come from your provider's records through Apple Health, which works with the health systems, providers, and labs that connect to it — connections you set up yourself, not partnerships with Protecht. There's no upload button and no way to edit a result, so nobody can type one in or change it.
Can't someone just take a screenshot?
No app can stop a photo of a screen. In the Protecht app, taking a screenshot cuts 20 seconds from the timer. Every view is labeled with your name and the time.
Is Protecht HIPAA-compliant?
Yes. Protecht is HIPAA-compliant, and signs a Business Associate Agreement with clinics and other clinical partners that need one. The strongest protection is the design itself: Protecht doesn't store your results, and when you share, they're encrypted on your phone before they leave it.
How does Protecht make money?
Protecht is free to download, receiving a share is free, and sharing HIV status is always free. Protecht+ adds sharing for the other conditions plus reminders and logs, for $3.99/month or $39.99/year. A 24-hour pass is $1.99. Clinics and community organizations can also license seats.
Is Protecht on Android?
Not yet. Protecht is iPhone-only today. An Android version is in development, with no release date.
